The customers of Ecobank, the sub-regional bank, will now enjoy electronic banking products through the wide network provided by Amadeus, the world’s leading technology partner for the travel industry, to Central and West Africa travel agencies.
This, according to a statement by the bank in Lagos on Saturday, has been made possible by the partnership signed in Lomé, Togo, on November 30, 2006, between the Ecobank Group and Amadeus Central and West Africa which is the regional subsidiary of Amadeus.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Group’s Executive Director for Retail Bank, Technology and Operations, Ecobank, Mr. Patrick Akinwuntan, and the CWA General Manager, Amadeus, Mr. Eric Frerotte.
Akinwuntan said, “This alliance is a clear demonstration of our commitment of taking banking to the people.”
Under the agreement, Amadeus will make available to Ecobank customers, its network of travel agencies that include about 900 locations across West and Central Africa The agreement was also hailed by Frerotte, who explained that Amadeus’ strategy “is to transform the travel agencies in the region in high class multi-service point of sales.”
